In response to the threat of terrorist attacks and potential natural disasters, several national laboratory networks have been developed to provide coordination, capability, and capacity to respond during emergency events.

• The Laboratory Response Network (LRN)
• The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NALHN)
• The National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN)
• The Environmental Laboratory Response Network (eLRN)

These networks have different response authorities and missions.
