Since 2003, FERN has trained over 250 people from 35 states, and Canada and Mexico. Courses have included all three disciplines and have been hosted at FDA, USDA, and state facilities.
- Microbiological courses have included real-time PCR training for select agents, FERN screening methods for the detection of Bacillus anthracis, Francisella tularensis, and Yersinia pestis, and Clostridium botulinum toxin training.
- FERN radiological workshops have been held at FERN laboratories, examining in detail an emergency response by the network for a radiological event.
- FERN chemistry training courses have been given, covering both gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, as well as inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry platforms.
